SPECTER
SPECTER

Specter continues to break boundaries with his unique style of street art, creating outdoor site-specific interventions in an attempt to shift the dynamics in public space. With his use of renegade sculptures and installations, he aims to deconstruct established notions of the built environment meanwhile illuminating its potential as creative co-conspirator. Although at times focusing solely on sculpture, Specter's body of work is versatile, often integrating both two and three dimensional concepts in a variety of mediums, and more often than not articulating subversive humor and hints of delicious irony.

Specter's roots are firmly planted in graffiti. Growing up in Montreal, Quebec, he started writing over a decade ago and co-founded the infamous "Kops Crew" in 1998, which has grown to be one of Montreal's most legendary and publicized graffiti crews. His attachment to graffiti is still apparent in his work; abandoned buildings and forgotten environments continue to be a main source of inspiration. Although his artistic practice began in Montreal, Specter has worked and lived in many different cities, most recently residing in Toronto, Ontario and currently Brooklyn, New York. He has also introduced his practice to the fine art world with gallery representation in Toronto and Brooklyn as well as past exhibitions in institutions such as the Royal Ontario Museum.
